Their content is more likely to be encountered by the writer. Their content is more likely to be within the path of discovery. When a writer is looking for information on a topic, the content has a chance to be found.

This does not create visibility as a separate action. It is part of the same action. Content that has the ability to attract links requires two things at once. It must have value that is worthy of being referenced, and it must have a realistic opportunity for being seen by someone who writes.

This approach is passive in that the link is not requested; however, that doesn’t mean that the content does not have to be intentionally crafted in a particular way that makes it more likely to be referenced.

Over time, the content that gets backlinks without outreach is the one that continues to help people get their work done within the topic.

A page doesn’t have to chase a link when it’s part of how the subject gets explained.
